Who we are

The short version

You've lived it: the 40-page RFP that drops with two weeks' notice, the compliance matrix, the SF330s, chasing resumes and reformatting boilerplate at midnight while covering three other pursuits. You're good at it, and you know what actually wins, not just what gets submitted.

At Buoyant you'll do what you do best and make our proposal agents better at it. Every response you review, correct, and sharpen teaches the AI to write the next one closer to the standard you set. You're the expert in the room, and you're helping build the thing that gives proposal teams across AEC their weekends back.

Buoyant builds AI agents for architecture, engineering, and construction firms. Our flagship product drafts and assembles RFP and SOQ responses in a firm's own voice, pulling from their project history, resumes, and past proposals, straight into Word and InDesign. We're growing 10x, we're profitable, and we're winning the AEC market. We were founded by a venture capitalist who spent a year writing AEC proposals himself, and a top 1% Amazon infrastructure engineer who started his engineering career at Siemens.

If you love proposal work but are tired of the firm politics, the thankless all-nighters, and being treated as overhead, this is the part you're good at, with better pay, better tools, and your expertise treated as the point. It's based in San Francisco, hybrid, and open to remote for the right person.

What you'll do

Day to day

Teach the agents

Review agent-drafted responses, correct them, and give the structured feedback that makes the next draft sharper: tone, compliance, win themes, formatting, and the right resumes and past projects for each pursuit.

Handle the hard cases

Fix the messy, high-stakes responses the agents get wrong, and build the rails they learn to follow, so quality holds up across firms, disciplines, and RFP types.

Write with Buoyant

Use Buoyant's own agents to draft real proposals for our clients, so you feel the product exactly the way our users do and see where it needs to get better.

Be the proposal expert in the room

Sit with the founders when we decide what to build next, so each product update makes a coordinator's life easier.

Who you are

What we're looking for

Must-haves

  • Real, hands-on AEC proposal experience. You've personally owned RFP and SOQ responses at an A/E, civil, structural, environmental, construction, or architecture firm. Titles like Proposal Writer, Proposal Coordinator, or Marketing/BD Coordinator.
  • Strong instincts for what wins, and the ability to explain them, not just apply them.
  • Pride in the craft, and a desire for a focused role doing what you're great at.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and reliable under deadline.
  • Curiosity about AI and comfort picking up new tools. No coding required.

Strong advantages

  • Federal proposal experience with SF330 and SF254 forms.
  • Strong formatting skills in Adobe InDesign or advanced Microsoft Word.
  • Depth in a specific AEC discipline: civil, structural, environmental, water, transportation, or architecture.
  • Experience mentoring junior writers or giving structured feedback, which is exactly how you'll train the agents.

Not the right role if

  • You want to move out of hands-on writing into pure management or strategy.
  • You don't have direct AEC proposal experience. This role is built around it.
  • You want heavy process and a big marketing team to lean on. We're small and we move fast.
